Solar Window Technology is Coming

solar window

Solar panels are fantastic. They give many homes a way to generate their own clean power, saving owners money and eventually paying themselves off. However, not everyone is capable of installing panels onto their roofs for various reasons. The angling of your tiles could face the wrong way, minimizing their effectiveness or you simply mightn’t have a roof with space.

That is why the next great leap in home solar technology needs to be something that is more flexible in terms of where you can place it – and that’s where solar windows come in. Almost ready for release, these panes of glass use an organic material with wiring hidden into window frames in order to generate electricity. A transparent photovoltaic film is also used, similar to the technology used in solar thin-filming.

These windows will obviously be more expensive than your average window, costing possibly up to 40% more, but one of the main developers Solaria claims that you’ll generate enough power to earn your money back within a year.

These panes of glass are not as efficient as solar panels, converting about 1% of captured light into electricity, (regular solar panels are at about 15%) but when you consider how much time your windows probably spend in sunlight and how many windows you have, you’ll see that these panels are still effective. On top of that, considering the product is still in production, developers believe they can get the efficiency up to 5%.

One of the companies leading the charge is the aptly named Solar Window Technologies. The company is currently in development, with plans to release a functioning solar window soon – they haven’t got an exact timeframe just yet, however. Solar Window Technologies’ campaign revolves around the idea of fitting these panes onto skyscrapers and large city buildings, using them to generate power. Of course, they can also work in your home. The company has the ambitious goal of making solar windows 12-times more beneficial for the environment than regular solar panelling.

With Solaria testing their product in “a few” buildings and being in the process of their first large-scale commercial project and Solar Window Technologies’ ambitious goals, these products might even by on the market by the end of 2017.

If you’re looking for advanced solar technology that’s available right now, thin-film solar panelling is your answer. Thin-film technology’s strength is that it can be placed anywhere and is more flexible than its predecessors. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is leading the way in this field with his solar roofing. The rooves are just as effective as regular panels and are designed to appease from an aesthetic point of view as well.

While thin-film solar technology does already exist, Musk’s roofing won’t be available for purchase until early 2017 and claims solar rooves could completely offset your monthly utility bills.

No matter where you look, it seems solar technology is ready to take a massive leap forward in 2017.

Soundproofing Your Walls at Home

Sound proofing your home

Whether you’re trying to block out the noisy neighbour, or trying to make your kid’s guitar as little heard as possible, soundproofing is one of the least painful ways to go about it. Come to think of it, these two reasons are not mutually exclusive, and the solution to either is the solution for both.

If you’ve seen people stapling egg cartons to their walls and calling it soundproofing… that doesn’t work. Yes, it may serve a purpose in making one’s home recording studio more conducive to recording by enhancing the acoustic quality of the room, but it does nothing when it comes to isolating the sound.

Before all else, we need to understand that sound is vibration. So, in trying to soundproof walls, we actually want to minimize the vibrations as much as possible. There are two principal ways to go about this – you either construct soundproof walls from scratch, or you soundproof them after the fact. Whichever way you decide to go, there are some tips and tricks how to do it as painlessly as possible, both for you and your wallet.

Making a Soundproof Wall

Let’s begin with constructing a soundproof wall. Given that most Australian homes are built with a timber frame, we’ll be working that angle throughout this text. For a start, you’ll want to install the frame, as well as one side of the wall (preferably the exterior, but in the end, it doesn’t matter all that much). Be sure to understand the STC (Sound Transmission Classification) ratings of the materials you use. These, in essence, indicate how well the material handles sounds – the higher the rating, the better.

In a nutshell, what you do next is simply stuff the inside of the wall with the soundproofing material. Anything will do – damp (or dry) blown cellulose, fiberglass, mineral wool. The only difference is the application, in that you only have to blast the cellulose in, while the wool and fiberglass you need to cut to fit.

Alternatively, you can use either resilient channel or so-called Whisper-clips, which are basically types of metal furring, making the plasterboard (or, some may recognise it – drywall) “float” off the frame.

Once you’ve pressed the cellulose flat or placed the wool/fiberglass, it’s time to apply the plasterboard. Use an acoustic sealant to glue the plasterboard to the insulating material, or decouple the walls using the aforementioned furring.

Anything you do from this point on may as well be done on a brick wall, so we’ll treat it as soundproofing after construction. In this spirit, here’s a free bit of advice – add another layer of plasterboard. Fill in the space between with caulk, making a sort of sandwich if you will. The caulk deadens the sound and will serve as an added layer of insulation.

Soundproofing Your Walls after Construction

Further, consider applying mass-loaded vinyl. It’s purchased in rolls, and can be cut up and applied whichever way you need. Remember, we said that sound is vibration, and this material, thin as it may be, was specifically designed to absorb a goodly amount of vibration. Don’t stop there – feel free to use it on the ceiling and floor, as well.

Naturally, be sure to cover everything, as any gaps between sheets will significantly decrease the effectiveness of the vinyl. To be certain you’ve covered everything, use acoustic caulk to fill in any remaining holes, gaps or tears. Pay special attention to the joints and seams around air ducts, ceiling fixtures, receptacle and switch boxes, and be sure to check for cracks across the surface.

Furthermore, let’s not forget about the doors and windows. All your work around the walls will be for naught if you don’t do the same to doors and windows. For the former, be sure to get soundproof doors – the heavier, the better.

Additionally, apply sweeps to the bottom and weatherstripping to the frames. As far as the windows go – take double glazed. It will certainly cost more than single-glazed, but you’ll hear (or, rather, won’t hear) where each and every penny went.

If you’re setting up a home recording studio, then acoustic panels should ring a bell. These are primarily designed to improve the acoustic quality of a room, but they work just as effectively to cut down on sound emissions.

There are various designs to choose from, both in terms of thickness and colour, and there are manufacturers that actually offer custom-printed patterns if you want to personalise your space. These attach using clips or Velcro, and it’s a breezy DIY job.

Finally, there are some tips that are not conducive to a recording studio but are highly recommendable for reducing noise pollution. These include placing soft, cushy things, such as rugs, carpets or drapes to the room, or having potted plants. Yes, they are that useful. Most people seem to favour Dieffenbachia and Rubber plant.

What Every Small Business Owner Should Consider When Choosing Their Work Space

how to choose office space

One of the first things one can notice when searching for the best workspace is the fact that almost everyone is focused on organizing their tech environment. You will often find some tips on how to clean you work desk or how to organize your desktop and your inbox which is loaded with messages. Well, these are some of the achievements of the modern age and we can’t deny them. But, let’s consider another option also very popular today.

Between Traditional And Contemporary Style

The so-called, retro style is a combination of different trends from closer past. This style includes some trends from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and sometimes even further. It doesn’t imply usage of some fashion trends from the past, like patterned wallpapers, but the modernization of these different styles and his recapitulation with a pinch of nostalgia.

Location

The first thing you need to consider is ocation of your workspace. Is that a suburban area with lots of greenery, natural light and a quiet In that case you have the scenery, a quiet and inspiration place for your work, but you don’t have traffic which can result in a small number of clients in the beginning. On the other hand, if you choose a location somewhere downtown, you will have to face difficulties like noise and traffic, and you will have to invest more than you wanted just to reduce these disturbances.

Basically, what you need to do is to find a location that will include a quiet street with good demographic conditions. At the same time, you want to avoid competition that can ruin your business. That’s why you should look at other retail business nearby, community lifestyle and their requisite for the offer you present. That’s why choosing the right location is the first step for making a good business deal.

Interior

When it comes to designing your interior you should consider consulting a professional interior designer. He will help you to express our ideas and make them come true. You don’t want to your workspace be crowded with things you’ll never use and that will only distract your attention. At the same time, this will be the space for your clients too. That’s why you need to organize it so they will feel comfortable.

Between Minimalist and Modern

When talking about these two terms, we want to combine them and achieve a retro touch in our interior. This style uses a lot of light, plants, wooden material like beams, industrial accessory with some antiqued steel. This can be the perfect combination for you to express your individuality and at the same time show some respect for tradition. This style allows you to decorate the interior with recycled and handmade items. For example, you can make a lamp of some dried branches or make a frame from rotten boards and put a colorful flower in it. Remember that retro design at the same time represents functionality and aesthetics.

Furniture

We don’t want to go into some scientific debate when arranging our interior. But, this debate offers other creative possibilities. For example, if you want a touch of vintage atmosphere, you may consider the egg chair which was developed under the influence of the cosmic age and the first Moon-landing. Science says that rounded furniture is better for positive thinking and creativity. At the same time, 70’s and their hippie movement can offer you very interesting design. Focused on criticism of consumerism, designers were focused on earth tones and preservation of mother earth. That’s another reason for considering retro tips we mentioned before.

Space

If your workspace is smallou should consider some tips to remedy this. The first thing is adding mirrors; for example, antique and rounded mirrors will make your workspace seem bigger , and they’ll at the same time add some class. That can be very important for your concentration and your clients will feel much more relaxed. Another tip is to build a separating wall that will give your workspace an optical illusion and create additional options for decorating, especially when it comes to lighting.

When choosing your workspace the first thing you need to consider is finding the location. This is mandatory for a successful business. Interior design is also very important because you want to make a positive atmosphere for you and your clients. The last thing is to give your workspace a personal touch in order to make it unique so the clients will make sure that your services are reliable.

1)   Woodgraining

wood graining

Woodgraining is the perfect choice for those DIYers who are trying to spruce up some of their more weathered wood fixtures. Though this painting technique looks difficult, novice painters shouldn’t shy away from this deceptively simple process. The key is to sand the wood surface well then add the subsequent layers of primer and paint over a course of at least two days. After the process is finished, you will be greeted with your old wood fixtures looking like new!

2)   Whitewashing Brick Walls

Do you have a dated looking eyesore of a fireplace in your living room? Removing brick structures can sometimes be impossible without comprising the structure’s integrity. Luckily, there is a great method to completely transform the look of unsightly exposed brick. Whitewashing is a technique where the painter sponges diluted white paint onto the wall in layers, then wipes it down with a water mixture. This ultra-easy technique alters a tired looking room into one that looks sleek and modern with very little cost or effort.

3)   Striping

striping a wall

Over the years the idea of having an accent wall in living rooms and bedrooms has become very desirable. An accent wall opens up the space and adds a pop of color without completely overwhelming the space. A great technique to use on an accent wall is striping. Striping is exactly what it sounds like—vertical or horizontal stripes that are painted onto the wall with alternating colors. Pro painters highly suggest measuring each area carefully so you get an even look. Then, use tape to emulate the stripes as you paint. Once you take the tape off, you will be met with smooth looking lines that add a sophisticated element to any room.

4)   Stenciling

stencil

Stencils aren’t just for kids! For a bolder and funky look, use stencils to precisely add gorgeous accents to your walls. With endless options, this technique will be sure to impress any perspective homebuyer. Fortunately, you do not have to be Picasso to completely achieve a flawless result. Simply use paint-friendly tape to attach the stencil to the wall, pencil in the design, then carefully hand paint over the pencil sketch. The last stage can be tricky for those who aren’t the most steady-handed, so be sure that you complete this step with a smaller, finer bristled brush.

5)   Wallpapering

wallpapering

Obviously wallpapering is technically not a painting technique, but it is a way to make your walls look like new and should not be overlooked. Gone are the days of tacky floral 1970’s wallpaper. Most recently, wallpaper has made a reappearance, and though it is the costliest option on this list, it is sure to make a strong visual impact. Nowadays wall paper is made to be heavy duty, water-resistant, and ever-so stylish. If you are nervous about painting in your own unique decorative accents, then wallpaper may be the way to go. The key to wallpapering is in the initial measuring and trimming for the room. Be sure that you are meticulous about this process, and you will end up with show stopping results.

What a great experience. I called several property buyers over a 2 week period in an attempt to find the right buyer for our property in Utah. All were amicable and all made promises related to my explanation of our objectives and needs etc… Our objective was simple sell the property, our needs were a bit unusual get the property sold in two days. Each of the potential buyers I spoke to a gave their assurances that they could make this happen (check book in hand, and I have cash statements were commonly thrown about).

Of the potential buyers that actually came to see the property (a pre-requisite I insisted on) Andy’s team was the only one that was actually prepared to conduct business per my stated objective and need to move quickly. They were friendly knowledgeable and very professional in every aspect of our dealings. It was clear that they understood what we wanted and needed to accomplish and they were magnificently well prepared. We discussed several options sounding the sale to include a particularly interesting option for partnering on flipping the property, but settled on a simple sale. We then negotiated the price, what we would do, and how it would be done.

We were offered lunch and afterwards headed to a title company where Andy’s team had already started the titles search process etc… We signed the docs, and to my amazement the deal was done. In less than three hours after we met, we had negotiated the deal, had lunch and sold our property. The whole experience was very professionally handled by Andy’s team because they were prepared to conduct business, what a pleasure.

Dear Andy,

We do wish to thank: you for the expediency with which you handled the sale of Cindy’s house. It was very professional and time saving. Andy McFarland was awesome to work with. We had a ton of showings on a short sale property but no offers. The home was run down and needed a lot of work, so it would not qualify for a standard FHA loan. He could see past all of the junk and got me a fair offer to get things rolling on the short sale. It took a while and we had some “1-800-INDIA” issues but he hung in there and did what he said he was going to do. We closed quickly once we had 3rd party approval. Now the house looks great and the neighborhood is grateful to have an eyesore renovated.

aa40Are you currently searching for “Investors Buying Homes in Provo Utah”? Have you been searching for home buyers for such a long time? Are you tired waiting for someone to finally enter your home and offer you a fair price for your property? Are you worried about the upcoming deadline of foreclosure? These and many other problems attached in owning a home can really create frustrations among home owners.

Basically there are three major ways to finally sell your home. That includes selling the house on your own effort, hiring a realtor, and looking for house investors buying homes in Provo Utah. There is a huge difference among these three processes of selling your house. The fastest time that you can dispose your property depends on which options you select.

Selling your home on your own can be very stressful because you have to consider a lot of factors such as repairing your home, de-cluttering, cleaning, applying new paint, improving the lawn, enlisting the property, and many more. This method requires a lot of efforts and there is no assurance that you will be able to sell your home quickly.

vc-27The second method is to look for a real estate agent. Just as you exerted efforts in making your home look presentable, the realtor will also require you to do so. The only advantage in hiring a real estate agent is their wide range of customer lists that are looking for homes. But this alone does not give you 100% guarantee that someone among their connections will buy your home for quick cash. Another drawback is the interest fees and commission charges that you have to pay them from the selling price. This process may take several weeks, months, and even years.

vc-39The third and most efficient and effective way is to find home investors buying homes in Provo Utah just like Sell My Utah House Fast. They do not “list” your property, instead they buy it. They do not charge you any fees or commissions. They can give you fast cash offer in as little as 48 hours and ensure a fast, hassle-free, stress-free sale!

Home Investors Buying Homes in Provo Utah can take over your mortgage payments and provide debt relief to you and your family. They have the ability to pay cash for your home and arrange a quick closing. They could offer a fresh approach that provides a solution for you to have a quick sale, and is customized to meet your financial and equity needs.
